FAMILY SINGING WORKSHOPS
Re-connecting through music and song
Why sing? And who are the workshops for?
My two hour family singing workshops create a space to unwind and relax with loved ones whilst having lots of fun singing and learning how to use the voice. It is a time to re-connect with one another, and ourselves, and have a joyful shared experience through music. No experience is needed! You can be a bath singer, car hummer, kareoke king or brand new to using your voice. Everybody is welcome and I would recommend 'going on 6 years and upwards' (though babes in arms is highly encouraged) and of course you know your child best in terms of how long they can concentrate for. The workshop is about having fun exploring your voice, meeting others and letting your hair down as a family! Singing is a really good stress buster, and as well as being generally brilliant for our overall wellbeing (releasing endorphins and oxytocin to make us feel wonderful), there is also lots of evidence that it helps to prevent dementia, reduce blood pressure and help with anxiety and low mood.

The workshop format will be approximately: meet and greet/ settling in; 45 minute warm ups/singing session; 15 minute break; 45 minute singing session; 5 minute wrapping up. You might just want to consider the age of your child and how much you'll will be able to join in! Of course, you are welcome to take breaks and pop back in - whatever makes it work for you as a family.
What can I expect from the session?

We will be singing a collection of pop songs, old classics, and musical numbers - so something for everyone!
We will be learning some fun warm ups, tongue twisters, and breathing techniques. This is to be able to make the most out of your voice, look after it, and to be able to get an idea of your potential, particularly if you haven't sung before. It's amazing what the right exercises can do for your vocal chords- and your singing confidence!
My favourite part of the session is to explore harmonies with you as a group, practise different parts and layer songs to build some beautiful sounds and songs. For me, harmonies are magical and I can't wait to be in the room when you sing them!

If you haven't been to Malling Community Centre before, there is the fab Brew Cafe within the building which serves lots of yummy treats and drinks. We will take a break half way through to give you the chance to meet others and to rest your voices :-)
